A woman has been arrested for the murder of a man found dead earlier this week. 39-year-old Lori Hummel of the 400 block of Ridgway Avenue in Gloucester City was arrested on Friday and charged in the death 0f 54-year-old Thomas Carbin. Carbin’s body was found by his teenage daughter on Monday in his Westville, N.J. apartment. Police say Hummel was an acquaintance of Carbin who visited on Sunday night and was there until the early morning hours of Monday.
At some point Monday morning, police say Hummel slashed Carbin’s neck, killing him. She then allegedly stolen cash and gift cards and went shopping.
Hummel is charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
An Adrian man pleaded guilty Wednesday to a series of killings over the course of two decades, including the stabbing death of a fellow inmate at the Southern Michigan Prison in July 1986. Anthony Guy Walker, 53, who was arraigned in May in a cold case involving his killing of two women and a 10-month-old baby in 1979, also admitted to three other murders. One of those was the stabbing death of Daniel A. Staggs, then 40, of Genesee County. Staggs was serving a life sentence for armed robbery and was stabbed in the chest by Walker inside cell block 4, where the two had been serving time.
The state police investigated the murder, but there were no suspects at the time, according to Citizen Patriot archives. Supposedly, Walker admitted to the killing of Staggs but will not be charged for the crime. Walker was already in prison on a rape conviction and his admission in the other murders is expected to keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.
Melvin Clay, 37, and Heliana Amrine, 21, were arrested Thursday night in connection to the stabbing death of 23-year-old Marine Ryan Lekosky in October. New Orleans Police Department spokeswoman officer Shereese Harper reported that the two were arrested by police shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Dauphine Street and Bienville street, just one block from where the fatal stabbing occurred. According to Harper, Clay was charged with second degree murder, while Amrine, his girlfriend, was charged with accessory after the fact. After leaving the Marine Ball with his wife around 3:30 a.m. on October 31, Lekosky was stabbed several times when he got into a verbal altercation with Clay, who police say was harassing pedestrians, including Lekosky’s wife. Lekosky later died at the hospital.
Bail is set at $1 million for a man accused of repeatedly stabbing his mother and killing her boyfriend at the Jersey shore. Michael Cahill is charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a knife for an unlawful purpose. The 41-year-old’s public defender told a judge his client appeared to understand the charges during a court appearance in Ocean County on Wednesday. Cahill was arrested Tuesday after police arrived at his 65-year-old mother’s Tuckerton home. Her 63-year-old boyfriend, Kenneth Robinson, was dead. Meredith Cahill remains in critical condition with multiple stab wounds.The Asbury Park Press reports Michael Cahill was found innocent by reason of insanity in 2003 in the accidental fatal shooting of a Little Egg Harbor woman. He was released from a psychiatric hospital in 2006.
Authorities are looking for a Pennsylvania couple suspected of killing a man and stuffing his body parts in a backpack and under a bed at a Los Angeles hotel. Melissa and Edward Garcia Jr. are charged with torturing and murdering a Hollywood man at the Continental Hotel near Skid Row. The Los Angeles Times said Wednesday a housekeeper discovered the body parts of 49-year-old Herbert Tracy White on Nov. 29 in a backpack left in a room. More parts were found wrapped in blankets under the bed. Police detective Kelle Baitx says the body was in five pieces, with the limbs removed. Baitx says it appears that White was killed during a robbery that went wrong and the killers were trying to remove the body.
