Riwayah Warsh ‘an Nafi’ Recitation

Omar al-Qazabri The following is an entire collection of Qur’ānic recitation by Shaykh Omar al-Qazabri [شيخ عمر القزابري], a qari from Morocco. The style of recitation here is Warsh ‘an Nafi’ [ورش عن نافغ]. Some info on Shaykh Omar:

Omar al-Qazabri is a Moroccan Qur’an reciter and Imam. He was born in 1974 in Marrakech. His father helped him memorize the Qur’an at the age of eleven. Soon after having got his baccalaureate, Omar flew to Saudi Arabia in order to learn more about Islamic Fiqh. He enrolled in Islamic Institute of Makkah in 1997. Later on, he went to Egypt and worked with Cheikh Ahmed Al Maassarwi on a project entitled “The Ten recitations achievement”. Back to Morocco, Omar al-Qazabri had gained a huge experience from masters of Qur’an recitation and Islamic sciences. Omar al-Qazabri first led prayers in Oulfa’s mosque (Casablanca, Morocco) and earned much popularity thanks to his recitation of the Holy Qur’an. Omar al-Qazabri then was nominated Imam and Reciter of the monumental Hassan II mosque. Omar al-Qazabri is also known for his interesting conferences and speeches. He is nicknamed “the Minbar nightingale”.

While it is obviously best to learn Qur’ānic recitation [tajwīd] from a trained individual, you may, in sha’Allah, nonetheless benefit from Shaykh al-Qazabri’s excellent recitation. For the curious, here is a short primer on the ahkam, or rules of tajwid regarding Warsh. You may also order a color-coded tajwid mus’haf in the recitation of Warsh ‘an Nafi’ from Fadak Books. You may also download Qur’an Flash, a Flash-based program that allows you to read the Qur’an in the Warsh riwayah [recitation]. Just download the ZIP file [PC's]. There was a Mac installer as well but their web site is currently having issues. I will update it as soon as it’s available. You can also download a pdf of the mus’haf here.
