Philadelphia police responded to the scene of a shooting of a teenage boy. It happened around 4:50 p.m. along the 5300 block of Lesher Street. Reports say a 17-year-old was shot in the left hip shortly after he exited a home. He was rushed by police to Aria Hospital’s Frankford Division for treatment. His injuries were said to be critical.
A witness in the trial of a former suburban Philadelphia police officer charged with sexual assault says the man’s DNA was found on the alleged victim. Former Bensalem police Sgt. Michael Marren is on trial in Bucks County Court. Prosecutors say he forced himself on a woman inside a bathroom at the township paramedic headquarters after a night of drinking. A DNA analyst from the National Medical Services laboratory says Marren’s DNA was found on the woman’s breasts. Another witness said the woman had injuries that suggested she was sexually assaulted. Investigators say Marren assaulted the woman March 9 after a night out to mourn a colleague’s death. He was fired from his job as the head of the department’s sex crimes unit after his arrest.
A man is in stable condition, after getting shot in the neck during a robbery at a Philadelphia gas station. It happened at the Sunoco on the 3700 block of West Girard Avenue in the Mantua section late Wednesday night. Police say the suspect drove off in a green colored van, and remains on the loose.
Philadelphia police are investigating a shootout involving several men. The shootout ended with 2 suspects shot and one by the police. It happened around midnight along the 1200 block of South 21st street inside a bar called the “12-52 Crabhouse”. Police say an argument erupted after one of the men grabbed a female patron. A misunderstanding occured and the argument spilled out onto the street and then erupted into gunfire with at least 4 men were involved. Three police officers on bike patrol in the area responded to the scene. One of the officers apparently opened fire striking one of the suspects in the shoulder. Another man was shot in the foot by one of the other suspects.
A Philadelphia police officer was treated and released, but the suspect is still on the run. Philadelphia police say Officer Kevin Gorman, 33, a 3-year-veteran of the force, was treated and released at 4:45 a.m. and is expected to make a full recovery. It happened at 2:15am Friday morning near the 3300 block N Howard St near Westmoreland Street in North Philadelphia. Gorman was on routine patrol with his partner when the two of them saw a car heading east on Allegheny Avenue with 4 people inside go past them in the opposite direction at a high rate of speed. The officers turned around and chased the car. It stopped a short time later and one occupant in the back seat of the car got out and ran. Officer Gorman chased after him. The suspect climbed over a fence near Hope and Howard streets. As Officer Gorman climbed the fence after him, there were gunshots and Gorman was hit in the shoulder. The three people who remained in the car are in custody. The shooting suspect got away and police are searching for him on the ground and using police helicopters.
