Qari 'Abdur-Rashid Bin 'Ali Sufi

The following is an entire collection of Qur’anic recitation by Qari ‘Abdur-Rashid Bin ‘Ali Sufi [قارئ عبد الرشيد بن علي صوفي], a qari [a Qur'anic reciter] from Somalia who now resides in Qatar. The style of recitation here is Khalaf ‘an Hamzah [ خلف عن حمزة]. I consider Khalaf to be the most difficult of the qira’at of the Qur’an. Some info on Shaykh ‘Abdur-Rashīd:

The Shaykh was born in Somalia in 1964. He finished the Qur’an learning by the age of ten, then he handled the tajwid science according to Hafs ‘An ‘Asim’s version thanks to his mother.

He studies his father’s science of nahw [grammar] and ash-Shafi’i fiqh [jurisprudence]. Later on, shaykh ‘Abdur-Rashid went to Egypt to study the qira’at sciences [sciences of Qur'anic recitation] at the prestigious Qira’at Institute. He later became a professor of Qur’anic science at al-Azhar Islamic University. In 1991, Qari ‘Abdur-Rashid went to Qatar to work in the country’s ministry. He is now the imam of Masjid Anas Bin Malik, in Doha. He has also taken part in several durus and conferences in Europe.
